Alan S. Jacobson, Psy.D., MBA Founder & Chief Psychologist

Dr. Jacobson's Bio

Dr. Alan Jacobson’s path into psychology began at Tufts University, where mentors in the Child Study department — including developmental psychologist Don Werlieb and renowned reading and dyslexia researcher Maryanne Wolf — ignited a deep fascination with human development and the science of human potential. That early foundation shaped everything that followed: a career built at the intersection of rigorous psychological science and its real-world application to the lives of individuals, families, students, and organizations.

Dr. Jacobson earned his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) and completed training across leading clinical settings before founding the Center for Applied Psychological Science (CAPS) — a multi-specialty practice built on the belief that psychological services should be as precise, evidence-based, and outcome-focused as the best of modern medicine. Earlier in his career, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Italian Home for Children, a nonprofit dedicated to serving children and families with complex emotional and behavioral needs — an experience that deepened his understanding of systems-level care, organizational leadership, and the practical barriers families face in accessing quality mental health services. He also holds an MBA, which informs a distinctive ability to bridge clinical expertise with organizational and leadership contexts that few psychologists can offer.

Dr. Jacobson is licensed in Massachusetts, California, New York, and New Hampshire, and holds PSYPACT authority to practice telepsychology across 44 states. He is credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists and is an active member of the American Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, and the New York State Psychological Association.

His clinical and consulting work spans psychological and neuropsychological assessment, ADHD evaluation, twice-exceptional and gifted youth, testing accommodations for high-stakes examinations, anxiety treatment, EMDR, Relational Life Therapy, executive coaching, and performance psychology. He has served on boards focused on gifted youth, developmental disabilities, eating disorders, and educational innovation, and has contributed expert commentary to Politico, NPR, NECN, WPRI, and The Patriot Ledger.

At the heart of his work is a straightforward conviction: that when people understand themselves more clearly — their strengths, their challenges, and the science behind both — they are better equipped to build lives of meaning, resilience, and high performance.
